Several vehicles broken into outside LA Fitness in Allen Park – Southgate News Herald

Attempted break-ins and an illegal entry of a vehicle were reported on the evening of Jan. 24 in the parking lot outside LA Fitness, 3223 Fairlane Drive.

Allen Park police responded to the first incident at 9:41 p.m. when the owner of a 2018 Dodge Ram reported that someone rifled through the inside of his truck while he was inside LA Fitness. He said the incident occurred between 8:20 and 9:40 p.m.

He told the officer he was uncertain if he left the truck unlocked, as there was no sign of forced entry or damage. He didn’t find anything missing, but said it was apparent someone went through his belongings.

Less than an hour later, at 10:21 p.m., another officer responded to the same location on a report that several vehicles had been broken into.

The officer met with a man who said he arrived at the gym at 4:30 p.m. and left at about 9:30 p.m. Upon returning to his vehicle, he discovered that the vehicle parked next to his had its passenger window broken out. An announcement was made inside the gym. The owner was located and spoke with police to file a report.

The person who reported the incident informed police that he discovered his window had also been damaged.

Police said the culprit attempted to break in by possibly using a window punch, causing damage to the driver’s-side window. The would-be thief was unable to enter the man’s vehicle.
