TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Hundreds in Tallahassee were getting a work out in and learning healthy habits on Saturday at the 3rd annual family fitness day, that was held at the Jake Gaither community club.
This year’s theme was “24 Hour Fitness”. Organizers are encouraging you to be mindful about exercises, and health and wellness practices that can be used during any time of day, regardless of location.
Bringing health and wellness resources to the Southside of Tallahassee is the goal of Family Fitness Day.
This free event features workouts led by local instructors, wellness speakers and health screenings.
And the community definitely took advantage of this one-stop-shop.
The family event is hosted by the Tallahassee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Chi Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
These groups are hoping participants apply what they’re learning in their daily lives.
“Cardiovascular diseases is the number cause of death globally. And so we wanted to bring this awareness to the southside of Tallahassee to make sure they know different ways they can enjoy a healthy life in every single moment. It’s not just about going to the gym, but what they’re doing at work, at school, at home,” said Dr. Asha Brewer.
Organizers said the popularity of this event grows each year – with more than 200 in attendance on Saturday. They told WTXL that they’ll definitely be bringing a 4th annual family fitness day to the community.
